Large antique oil portrait painting of a woman sitting, signed and dated in the lower right corner, Carl V Stetten, Paris 1911.  This is a beautiful large scale Art Nouveau atmospheric oil portrait by a re-known and well respected artist, Carl Ernst Von Stetten (find out more below).  It's significant, dark and moody and well painted as you would expect.  The canvas is slightly textured to the touch, particularly around the raised elements of the bodice.  The woman sits bolt upright, her head tilted towards the artist, her expression is calm, self-assured and deliberate.  She holds a sheet of music in her hand, perhaps she plays an instrument and wanted to signify this in the portrait.  The hues of the pink roses in the vase on her left, perfected reflect the colours of her shawl that she has chosen to wear around her hips and that rests on her legs.  It's a perfect composition and would make an excellent, eye catching centre piece.

CONDITION: This painting is in overall good condition.  However, there are imperfections, such as small losses of paint, particularly around the periphery and old small surface renovations throughout (see photos).  At some time in the distant past, it has been re-hung on this stretcher, making it slightly smaller in width than it was in its original form.   There are minor scratches just above the chair.  Stretcher bar marks visible. It could do with a clean and perhaps the reworking of the old small renovations, or enjoy it in all its perfectly acceptable current authentic state.  The painting comes without a frame.
