A huge, charming impressionist landscape painting by French artist, Jean Vasseur, signed and dated (1929) in the left bottom corner. A country scene with cows under trees in an idyllic hayfield setting.
If you have ever tried to paint trees, then you will know that they are not the easiest to do. However, here the artist has managed to convey a tree border in an elegant and effective way. Thicken paint strokes help to define the leaves and bring these trees to life. Some pretty haystacks add more interest and the cows chewing in the shade proved by the trees are very delightful.
It's hay making time here in the Gers and it leaves me with a nostalgic fascination of hay making in the old times....
