19th Century Antique oil painting of a dog in a landscape attributed to German artist, Heinrich Karl Henry Jaeckel. Here, in this charming small scale painting dog is spooked by a bird, possibly a pheasant, that it has found on it's travels. The backdrop is an attractive landscape.

Date: Mid to late 18th century
Signed: This painting is attributed to Heinrich Karl Henry Jaeckel who was active in Berlin from 1842-1867. Jaeckel worked as a landscape painter in Berlin and was a member of the German association of artists. In 1853 he undertook a study trip to Naples and Rome, which was followed by another stay in Rome in the autumn of 1857.
In Italy the artist found inspiration for many of his paintings. His preferred subjects were landscapes of Italy or the Alps, which he often animated with atmospheric lighting and finely executed figural scenes.
Condition: This painting is in good condition. It has been relined probably mid 20th century. You should expect craquelure throughout as well as minor areas of missing paint. It would do well in a frame.
