Rare vintage oil painting of sardines on French newspaper by French artist Lucie Tullat (1895-1984).  A chiaroscuro painting, where the darkness of the background focuses your eye on the detailing of the fish in the fore which the artist has carved from impasto thickened oils and colourful hues.  This is a textured canvas that has had plenty of attention from the artist.  She has used both brushes and palette knives to good effect. The crumpled newspaper reveals its prize of fresh fish, a dark jug sits solidly within the composition adding to the darkness, whilst the light comes from the shiny white highlights on the fish and the white of the outer wrapper or perhaps a cloth that sits upon a table top.

Condition: The painting is in good vintage condition, expect minor imperfections associated with age.  The frame is likely to be the original, again, age associated imperfections throughout, indentations, losses of guilding etc. 

Signed: Lucie (Luc, Luce) Tullat (1895-1984) Lucie Tullat was a female French artist, bor on 26 March 1895, in St-Germain-en-Laye. She was primarily a painter of landscapes and still-lifes. She studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris from 1919 to 1925. She exhibited in Paris at the Salon d'Automne, where she was a member from 1946, the Salon des Tuileries and the Salon du Dessin et de la Peinture à l'Eau.   Lucie Tullat is listed in Akoun with an average price of 1,600€ for a 65cm x 50cm or P15 painting.
