Antique oil portrait from the early 1800's of a child in a black feather hat on a stretched canvas, framed, unsigned. This is a truly exceptional oil painting of a child, it reminds me of the Camille Corot painting on display in the Met.  A child with rosey cheeks and brown eyes looks direct at the artist.  The canvas is slightly textured to the touch.  The light of the sky of the landscape background helps to illuminate the child who is wearing an oversized hat and white collared black tunic.

Condition:  This painting has not passed through time without scars.  A wonderfully rich visual piece that has had a new canvas liner and renovations.  It suffers from some darkened varnish and craquelure  which, in my opinion, adds to the ambience of the piece.  The canvas is slightly ondulating.  The frame would most likely have been renewed at the same time as the re-lining, it has imperfections throughout, most significant a chip on the top right corner.
