This is an enchantingly beautiful old 19th century French Barbizon landscape/riverscape oil painting on thick board by François Edouard Bournichon (1816-1896). A gentle country scene, where two woman are enjoying the view of a river or lake, while a man sits, probably fishing in his boat. The sky is moody but light and the expertly painted tree is the focal point to the eye while the sky is reflected in the water which echos its colour and mood. It's a very traditional French school painting, calming and easy on the eye...

Date: mid 1800's
Condition: This painting is in a good antique condition. As you would expect from a painting of this age, there are imperfections, such as small areas of missing paint, particularly in the top right corner, and in the sky but on the whole, this painting has faired well on its travel through time. The frame seems to be the original. Expect losses of moulding, indentations and visible nails which gives it character and authenticity.
