Yvan Galle (1907-1975)


Yvan Gallé was born on the 15th April 1907 in Isle Jourdain, Toulouse France. He studied in Poitiers where he also attended the School of Fine Arts under Fernand Serreau one of the leading landscape painters in Poitou. He married Daniele. He is mainly known for his talents as a painter but he was also an advertising executive, illustrator and sculptor. He was extremely productive between the 1930s and 1960s.


In the early 1930s, Yvan Gallé worked for the advertising agency Ariste. In 1931, on the occasion of the opening of the 3rd Salon de l'Orientine, Georgette Naudin underlined that Yvan Gallé had his own style which could be "classified as unclassifiable.


In 1934, Yvan Gallé illustrated Thérèse Ratoin's children's book, Le Château aimanté. Later, in 1935, he illustrated the cover of Pierre Hunault's book, La femme aux épaves. In 1937, he decorated the Poitou pavilion. In the 1950s, Yvan Gallé painted the fresco entitled La Chasse au Bitard (The Bitard Hunt) which adorned


one of the walls of the restaurant of the Roche d'Argent university residences. From 13 to 26 March 1960, he exhibited at the Rouvereau gallery in Niort.


Yvan Gallé died on 28th November 1975 in Poitiers.
