Léon Giran-Max (1867-1927)

Léon GIRAN-MAX was born in Paris in 1867. He had a studio in Neuville-sur-Oise, a village on the edge of the river Oise in the département du Val d'Oise, France. It was situated downstream from Eragny where his friend, Octave Linet stayed. One of his favourite subjects was the river, along with the landscapes of Spain, Brittany and the South of France. He painted vigorously in strong colours and exhibited at the Nationale and the Salon de Indépendants which paid him a tribute in 1928. He also had a personal exhibition at Le Barc de Boutteville in 1898. Le Barc de Boutteville was an art gallery based at 47 Rue Le Peletier, 9th arrondissement and was one of the few places in Paris in the 1890’s where young artists were welcome to exhibit their work to the public. His studio in Neuville-sur-Oise was situated downstream from Eragny, where his friend and fellow artist Octave Linet (1870-1962) stayed. Léon is listed on AKOUN 460€ - 31,000€ achieved in 2005 for ‘Elegante at St Briac, Bretagne’.
