Armand Auguste Balouzet (1858-1905)



Armand was born on the 18 February 1858, in St Génis-Laval in the Rhône, France and died 13 May 1905, in Charbonnières, again in the Rhône. He was a painter of landscapes, flowers and animals.


Against the wishes of his family, Armand was encouraged by the painter Leberecht Lortet to travel to Switzerland in order to study. He exhibited for the first time at the Lyons Salon of 1878 and went on to exhibit at the Paris Salon in 1883, where he was awarded a silver medal. He was awarded a second medal in Paris in 1897, and exhibited again in Paris in 1904. In 1889, he produced a suite of seven decorative panels for the Cercle International de Vichy entitled May Morning.

His works include: Moonrise in the High Valley (1888); Autumn Evening at Poncin - Lake Riffel (1891); October Downpour (1897); Autumn Evening at Morestel (1897); and Leotard Mill at St-Genis-Lavel (1898).
