Albert Grenier (1859-1925)

An impressionist artist, friend of Toulouse-Lautrec (1864-1901). He had a studio at 19 bis rue Fontaine next to Degas's, which he later sold to Toulouse-Lautrec. He married Noemi Amelie Sans known as Lili Grenier, (see photo below) an emblematic model of the period, a professional artist's model and socialite muse.

This painting of Albert, byToulouse-Lautrec (1864-1901) was painted in Lautrec's studio in the rue Caulaincourt in 1887, where he employed thin water-like washes of pigment, laid over a fine pencil underdrawing to produce a sensitive portrait of his friend. It's now in the collection of New York's Metropolitan Museum.
